Explanatory mechanics layer
Why the Cosmograph holds together
Thread Field Theory is the modeling layer that explains how Zodarchy's existing calculations relate to one another — using field, excitation, and coupling as an interpretive vocabulary, not as new math. It does not replace the Fourfold calculations. It names why they cohere.
Disclaimer: Thread Field Theory uses concepts from quantum field theory as formal modeling analogies. Zodarchy does not claim that personality, astrology, or consciousness are literally quantum fields or quantum processes.
The chain
From field-space to reorganization
Each layer below narrows the one above it. A Cosmograph is the whole field; a Knot is one fully stabilized, named outcome within it.
Glossary
The full mapping
Cosmograph
Field-spaceThe whole space of possible configurations — the medium every chart is drawn from. Every Cosmograph is one localized configuration within this shared field-space.
Field
Local field conditionThe Lunar Field is the ambient condition of the field at a given point — the background state a configuration forms inside of.
Turn
Field orientationThe quarter-division of a Field. It orients the field condition toward one of four functions: Emergence, Relation, Action, or Integration.
Face
ExcitationThe Solar Face is the discrete excitation raised within the field — the specific quantum of expression the configuration carries.
Minister
Excitation modeEach Face divides into three Ministers (Vanguard, Artisan, Herald) — the mode in which that excitation actually moves: leading, crafting, or transmitting.
Channel
Interaction stateThe paired state formed when a Face.Minister excitation meets a Field.Turn field condition. This is the existing "Channel notation" (e.g. 17.2 ↔ 8.3) — one specific interaction state out of the full field-space.
Operational Seals
Interaction forcesQuickscript, Rosecord, Bloodspark, Starweft, and Ironveil — the five forces through which a Channel actually acts on a Chamber: naming, harmonizing, severing, expanding, or containing.
Seal → Chamber contribution
Coupling strengthEach Seal's raw and regent-weighted contribution to a Chamber's activation. This is the existing weighted SealContribution score — how strongly a given force couples to a given node.
64 Sigils / I Ching
Interaction topologyThe hexagram layer maps the shape of an interaction — which paths are open, blocked, or reinforcing — independent of which specific Seals or Chambers are involved.
Chambers
Localized nodesThe ten stations of the Tree. Each is a fixed location where field activity localizes and becomes measurable as an activation score.
Six Strata
Effective scaleFaint Signal, Naming, Fork, Bridge, Anchor, and Sky — the scale at which a Channel's configuration is currently being read: from latent impulse up to systemic stewardship.
Quinary
Instability modeThe 1–6 stage value that places a Channel on the Six Strata. Fork and Sky are Shock Gates — the two points where the configuration cannot proceed without a forced, conscious choice. This is a reading of the existing Quinary/Shock Gate values, not a new calculation.
Knots
Stabilized configurationsThe Enneagram fixations produced by Tree Activation — the specific, settled shapes a configuration collapses into once the field's tensions resolve.
Medicine
ReorganizationThe antidote and work-move paired with each Knot — the deliberate action that reorganizes a stabilized configuration rather than repeating its loop.
Computed layer
Stratum Running
A Channel does not only occupy the single Stratum its natal Quinary stage lands on. Stratum Running holds the Channel's underlying identity fixed — its Governor/Seal, element, modality, sect, and court witness — and evaluates what that same configuration would look like expressed at each of the Six Strata:
- 1. Faint Signal — latent/internal emergence
- 2. Naming — symbolic/conceptual formulation
- 3. Fork — decision, tension, crisis
- 4. Bridge — interpersonal/social transmission
- 5. Anchor — material commitment/stabilization
- 6. Sky — systemic/stewardship expression
This is one underlying Channel expressed differently by scale — never six separate personality types or six separate Channels. You can see a chart's live Stratum Running profile on any Chamber in its Cosmograph.
Invariance
The Gauge Principle
Different surface presentations can preserve the same underlying configuration. The Fourfold names and the Thread Field Theory names are two gauges over the same values — never two different calculations. Physics vocabulary appears as a second, explanatory layer alongside the original names, never in place of them.
Threadwell — Yesod · Field Node
The Fourfold Chamber name and its Tree/field-node reading are two labels for the same fixed location.
Celestial Channel — Interaction State
"Channel notation" and "interaction state" describe the same Face.Minister ↔ Field.Turn pairing.
Crown Quinary — Instability Mode
The Quinary stage number and its instability reading (stable phase vs. Shock Gate) describe the same underlying value.
